My Dear Hopefuls,

It seems like yesterday that we were meeting at a rented gym in a school in Kensington, praying for a permanent place to worship.

Now, by God's grace, Hope Bible Presbyterian Church has a permanent location, and is entering its 32nd anniversary of proclaiming the gospel and grounding believers in the faith. God has placed you in your community to become a light shining for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

On this occasion, I want to thank God for all the blessings bestowed upon you. By the grace of God, I have seen the growth, the transformation and dedication in the lives of every member of the church. I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to bless your ministry and equip each of you with wisdom and strength for His glory and the furtherance of His Kingdom. Stay strong and steadfast in your faith in the midst of trials and tribulations as you witness to an unbelieving world. Continue being the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." (1 Corinthians 15:58). "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).

Maranatha,

Brother Nathaniel Lim

EBPC rejoices with you all on the commemoration of Hope BPC’s  32nd Church Anniversary. We continue to relish this fellowship we have with you all over the years, through your visitations with us and our exchange of newsletters.

We have been encouraged by your Church growth over the years. We give Glory to God for His faithfulness toward you, recognising that it is all of the Lord-

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1

On this happy occasion of your 32nd Church Anniversary, may I, on behalf of EBPC congratulate you all. As the Lord has been good to you in the past, you can trust Him for all that is to come. Till He comes, may you be steadfast.

In Christ,

Rev Yew Cheng Lim on behalf of Evangel BPC, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Missions Series: Cambodia Missions - Part 5 (A)

Hope B-P Church embarked on an overseas missions for the first time in June 2000. It was decided that our church, 14 years old then, should not just be praying and sending funds to support missionaries, but to be directly involved in the missions field and to obey The Great Commission as commanded by our Lord Jesus before His ascension into heaven in Matthew 28:18-20 “18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Since 2000, we had been to Cambodia, our first destination, Batam (Indonesia), Cebu (The Philippines) and one other country which I cannot name because of possible repercussions against this missionary and his family.

Hope B-P Church’s last missions trip to Cambodia was in January 2008. We had in the past tried to help a Khmer Bible student start a church where we could be involved directly. This did not eventuate. It was not God’s timing. By God’s grace, it was resumed this year in January. We went there again to find out if we should be involved here or whether we should consider other destinations.

We have heard about Rev Paul Sun Sokha many times in the last 10 years. This time we met him as a pastor of a Khmer church in Phnom Penh. I first met Rev Sokha in our first missions trip to Cambodia in June 2000. He was then a FEBC student, and he came back to Sihanoukville, a port city 247 km south west of Phnom Penh, for a vacation from his studies. I met him again in Battambang, a city 299 km north west of Phnom Penh, in January 2003, and this time he was pastoring Moriah B-P Church there. As he was very busy, our meeting was only for a few minutes. We met again in January 2018!

Rev Sokha (“Sokha” in Khmer means “peace”) and his wife, Sis Lee Nam Soon, ended up in Phnom Penh. In 2015, Rev Sokha was invited by Andong Yongsan Presbyterian Church (South Korea) to pastor their daughter church, Faith Krang Angrang Church in Krang Angkrang, previously a village, but now a suburb of a rapidly expanding capital, not far from Phnom Penh International (formerly PoChentong) Airport.

Editor’s note:  This article will be continued next week, where we will be able to read and learn more about the ministry of Rev Sokha.
