Volume. XXXI, No. 41 Holiday Bible Camp (HBC) 2016Holiday Bible Club (HBC) 2016 (previously known as Vacation Bible School) was held from 10-14 October. The guest speaker was Mrs Susan George from India who was a wonderful speaker to both the younger and older Sunday school classes.
This Holiday Bible Club was particularly significant as there were many firsts!! This was the first year that we had HBC at a different location. Rather than having it at the Stone Mansion we had it at the All Saints Anglican Church at Colonel Light Gardens. As of this year, this location is Hope Bible-Presbyterian Church!! This was the first year we changed the name of this very eventful children’s program. It was the first time we changed the younger children’s program to accommodate the increase in the younger children and to better cater for their needs. This took much effort and planning from all the Sunday school teachers who worked hard. Thank God for the many Sunday School teachers who give their time, energy, dedication to God through this ministry! It was also the first time the missionary story was also changed. It was the first time that Rev and Mrs George came and ministered to our children. We thank God for their ministry here in Adelaide. The children were very blessed to hear God’s Word from them. This is a summary of the lessons that Mrs George provided each day and is a good reminder for all the Sunday school students who attended. Monday: LISTEN UP! Listen up to: * God/ Bible * Parents * Teachers * Leaders in the church The animal used to illustrate this lesson was an Elephant, which is Haathi in Hindi. Elephants have big ears to hear. The Bible character used to illustrate this was of Samuel, who heard the Lord's call. Memory verse: Proverbs 8:32 “Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways”. Tuesday: CHECK UP! Does your heart trust in God? The animal used to illustrate this lesson was a Giraffe, or Jeethu in Hindi. The giraffe needs a strong heart to pump blood up its tall neck. The Bible story used to illustrate this was of Joseph, who constantly trusted in God throughout the many trials and difficulties he experienced in his life. God is good and He will look after those who trust in Him, just like he looked after Joseph. Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Wednesday: BUILD UP! Use your tongue for God – pray, witness, build up and encourage others. The animal used to illustrate this lesson was a Hippopotamus, which is Kushi in Hindi. A Hippopotamus has a large tongue. We can use our tongues The Bible story used to illustrate this was of Daniel, who used his tongue (through refusing to eat the food offered to false gods, through continuing to pray to God even this was forbidden) to give glory to and obey God. Memory Verse: Proverbs 31:26 “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” Thursday: WAKE UP! Get to work for the Lord. No monkey business. The animal used to illustrate this lesson was a Monkey, or Bandar in Hindi. Monkeys have busy hands!! The Bible story used to illustrate this was of David. Although David was just a small boy, God used him to slay Goliath. Likewise we should use our hand for the Lord's work and to obey Him. Memory Verse: Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Friday: WISE UP! Be a follower of Jesus. Choose the narrow way. The animal used to illustrate this lesson was a Cheetah, which is Chandu in Hindi. The Bible story used to illustrate this was of Jesus. As sinners, Jesus is the only way we can be righteous before God, and the only way our sins can be forgiven. If we follow Jesus, we must travel on the narrow way. This means our lives as Christians may not always be easy. There may be obstacles and difficulties we need to get through on this path (trials and temptations in life), which we can overcome through trusting in God. Memory Verse: Proverbs 13:20 “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” The Missionary Story took the children on an Asian Adventure! Each day they learnt about what missionaries are doing in certain countries and the difficulties they face in when spreading God’s Word! They also were able to make prayer cards for each country after the story. Rev and Mrs George (also starring some of our local church members!!) were great actors and put on a skit each day. Mrs George used the acronym THUMB. Our Sunday school teachers taught the younger children the missionary story. The story was of Mary Slessor. Asian Country Prayer Requests Tribal Myanmar * The Myanmar people to have Bibles in their own language * For their own people to spread God’s Word (as foreign missionaries are not allowed) Hindu India * Local Christian Missionaries (as foreign missionaries are not allowed) * The medical work carried out by foreign Christian health workers in India Unreligious Japan * More Missionaries as Japan is open to foreign missionaries * People to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour, as many there do not believe there is a god Muslim Indonesia * More people to be sent to work there and share the Gospel (Christians in Indonesia can reach out to the unbelievers through their occupation) * God to open the hearts of the nominal Muslims to believe in Christ Buddhist China * Safety of the Christian teachers * ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers to teach and be good examples for Christ (as foreign missionaries are not allowed) To be continued in 2 weeks... |
