Missions Report: Ministry in Sarawak

We are deeply thankful for the prayers, encouragement, and partnership from Hope B-P Church in the ministry that God has entrusted to us among the people in the interiors of Sarawak.

Our ministry focuses on church planting, soul winning, and discipleship among the unreached and rural communities, especially the Penan and Iban tribe in the interior areas.

We dedicate our time to:

  • Establishing and strengthening local fellowships and new church plants.
  • Teaching God’s Word and training believers to become mature disciples.
  • Encouraging pastors and leaders serving in difficult, remote areas.
  • Bringing the gospel to those who have not yet heard the good news of Jesus Christ.

MINISTRY

Serving in the interior is often challenging. Many of these longhouse villages can only be reached by driving through muddy jungle roads, traveling long hours by boat along narrow rivers, or even walking on foot for several hours through hilly, slippery terrain. Yet in every journey, we continue to witness God’s hand of protection and grace leading us safely to those who are hungry for His Word.

The journey to reach these villages is often demanding. Some trips require crossing rivers in small wooden boats, others involve driving through rough, muddy roads, and sometimes we must walk long distances through forest paths to reach a single longhouse. Despite the challenges, we count it a joy to bring the gospel to places where few are willing to go. Each trip reminds us of God’s faithfulness and the great need for His Word in these remote communities.

Conducted follow-up visits to new believers in Penan communities. Organized teaching and fellowship sessions with local leaders and families. We even witnessed encouraging spiritual growth and deeper hunger for God’s Word among the people.

Sometimes we travel by boat, and other times we have to walk to reach more remote villages. It can take at least 4 hours by small boat, or anywhere from 2 hours to several days on foot through the jungle to get to another village. Surprisingly, walking is sometimes cheaper than using other forms of transportation.

PRAYER REQUEST

Please continue to pray for:

  • Strength, protection, and good health for our family during ministry travels. Remember us in prayer that we may have the physical and emotional resilience to face long journeys, challenging conditions, and unpredictable situations while serving.
  • Spiritual growth among the Penan believers and interior churches that their faith may deepen, their communities be strengthened, and they grow in love, understanding, and commitment to Christ.
  • Provision for ministry needs, transportation, and teaching materials, that all necessary resources, from boats and vehicles to Bibles and teaching aids, be provided so the ministry can continue effectively.
  • Safe travel through rivers, muddy roads, and jungle paths to reach remote villages – that every journey, whether by boat, foot, or road, be protected from accidents, delays, and danger.
  • Wisdom and endurance to continue serving faithfully in every challenge – that we remain steadfast, make wise decisions, and persevere through difficulties, trusting God’s guidance in every step of the ministry.
