University Orientation Week 2018

Praise the Lord for His goodness!

In previous years, the YAF has been reaching out to Adelaide University students around this time of the year, during the University Orientation week. Since our move to Colonel Light Gardens, our church has been blessed with a growth in numbers, including an increase in students from Flinders University. Hence, this year, the YAF committee decided to change direction, and reach out to Flinders University students during Orientation week.

While making plans for O-week, we were uncertain about hiring out a stall at the University. We have not held an O-week stall for a number of years due to the high financial requirements from Adelaide University. Relative to Adelaide University, Flinders had reasonable prices to hold a stall. After prayers and several discussions, the YAF committee decided to proceed with holding a stall at Flinders University.

In preparation for the O-week, we prepared 400 welcome packs that included snacks, stationery, gospel tracts and also a flyer for our Welcome Night on 2nd March 2018. On February 19th & 20th, we set up our stall at Flinders University.  The stall was decorated with a banner and signboard, as well as homemade cookies by our sister Jasmine to attract people to our stall! Each day, we had at least six helpers from YAF and VFG who manned the stall and walked around the university campus to distribute the welcome packs we had prepared. There were also other members from our church who provided us with abundant food and support each day. As written in Ephesians 4:16: “From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” They were such an encouragement to us and we were very touched by their kind gestures, knowing that we had support from the whole church.

While we distributed the welcome packs, we also tried to get to know more about them as well as introduce who we are. By God’s grace, there were many students who were friendly and responsive, gladly receiving our welcome packs and chatting with us. We collected about 40 names on our first day, and by the end of our second day of the O-week, we had collected a total of 95 names! It is truly by the power and grace of God that we managed to have such a wonderful outcome!

We truly thank and praise God for His bountiful blessings! It is our prayer and hope that this outreach will continue in the coming years and may we always strive to bring the gospel to more people around us. To God be the glory!

Only by His grace,

Sisters Natalie Ki & Megan Lim
